Four disciplines.
One standard.

Whatever brings you through the door, the answer is the same one Bill Heynes would have given. Get the details right.

Full Restorations

Every restoration is unique. Some owners want their car to look as it did the day it left the factory. Others want it to keep the seventy years it has lived through.

We work either way. What we don't do is shortcut. Bodywork comes apart to bare metal where it has to. Engines and gearboxes are stripped, blueprinted and rebuilt to factory tolerance. Coatings are applied as Browns Lane applied them — cadmium, nickel, cellulose — by the right hands.

  • Bodywork Full fabrication, carried out by hand using traditional methods — bare-metal preparation, lead-loading, panel forming. The skillset on the bench is among the finest still working on these cars.
  • Coatings Cadmium, nickel and zinc plating. Cellulose paint, applied as Browns Lane applied it. No modern shortcuts where a period finish is the right answer.
  • Mechanical Engines, gearboxes, IRS and differentials, rebuilt in-house to factory tolerance. We also take on sub-assembly work in isolation — a car doesn't need to be a complete Heynes build to come through the workshop.
  • Trim Full interior, in-house. Seats, carpets, headlinings, hoods — and the long tail of detail that makes a finished car feel finished.

Maintenance

We maintain our customers' cars in line with original factory standards.

Cars are designed to be driven. Keeping a six-decade-old E-Type in proper working order is detailed work — and most of what your local indie mechanic doesn't quite know how to do. Our work isn't a guess at what's correct. It's drawn from period documentation and original cars.

  • EngineFull rebuilds, top-ends, rolling compression checks.
  • GearboxSynchromesh and overdrive units, original ratios.
  • CarburettorsSU and Weber rebuilds, balanced and set up on the bench.
  • SuspensionIndependent rear and differential rebuilds.
  • Trim & PaintTouch-in, panel work, full retrim if required.
  • MOT & WheelsAnnual checks, period-correct rim and tyre fitment.

Service three

Pre-Purchase Consultation

Before you bid. Before you sign. We assess the car first.

Most of what you need to know about a sixty-year-old car can't be seen in a photograph. We attend the auction or visit the dealer on your behalf, conduct a specialist inspection, and write you a report you can act on. If the car isn't right, we'll tell you. If it is, we'll tell you what it ought to cost.

What you receive

Written report covering chassis numbers, originality, body and mechanical condition, recommended works and a fair-value range.

Where we attend

Auctions and dealers across the UK and Europe. Further afield by arrangement.

Brokering & Valuation

Our list of contacts isn't a short one.

Selling discreetly. Acquiring quietly. A valuation for insurance, probate, or your own peace of mind. Three generations of being in the room means we know who is genuinely looking for what — and what a car is honestly worth, on a given day, in a given market.
